Your Words...and the Law of Cause and Effect
I love to share those subtle gems that
I have learned over the decades from my study and application of mental
and spiritual laws.
And yes, some of these principles can
be very subtle, but when we become aware of them, it can greatly add to
our understanding of circumstances in our lives. We become more acutely
aware of the law of cause and effect. We become aware of the tremendous
power behind our words and especially when strong feelings are attached
to them. By increasing our awareness, we refine our characters and our
personalities to become more aligned with the laws of life and are then
able to attract and manifest more of what we want in life.
We cannot escape the law of cause and
effect. We can get away with going through a stop sign and cheat the
manmade laws, but we cannot do this with the laws that govern our
existence.
The reason that we are not generally aware of the repurcussions of this law is because of the time factor.
For example, let's say that you bump
your arm on an object. A bruise may not show up on your arm until
later, sometimes even a day or so later. But this is a perfect analogy
of the law. The bruise is an obvious effect from a cause that occurred
earlier.
I explain to my students of my
prosperity program that the situations in our life today are the effect
of causes that occurred at some earlier time. Sometimes a cause can
create a reaction in a very short span of time. Often the root cause
goes much farther back in time. And sometimes there can be an almost
instant result - we have all heard the saying, "instant karma."
The secret then to manifesting what we
want in life is to make sure that our CURRENT thoughts and feelings are
in alignment with everything that is wholesome, positive, loving and
focused on what we want to create - definitely not on what we DON'T
want to create - or create more of.
The stronger the negative emotional
reaction we have to a situation, the more quickly and deeply will it
create a new neural pathway in our brain. And once that pathway is
created, it will continue to attract more of the same - in other words
it will perpetuate the initial situation. We will keep attracting more
of what we don't want. Ugh!
Words are powerful. Words + emotion
more powerful. Words written - even more powerful. And words written
publicly that are seen and read by a multitude of people? Well, that
adds so much power that it's like staking a claim in Universal Mind.
And you don't want to have that much power rebound and boomerang back
to you.
I'm not saying that we should not
write letters or use words to correct situations, state our case, and
stand up for our rights. But it's the thought, intention and emotion
that is behind our words that we must be aware of. We can stand up for
our case, we can offer feedback and criticism that is constructive, we
can ask for refunds or restoration - and we can do it practically with
civility - without hurtful intention or personal malice. We will find
that our situations will be resolved so much more quicky and peacefully
and we will not make ourselves vulnerable to the law of cause and
effect. We can become teachers and wayshowers instead of victims.
Let me tell you about a very striking
situation that illustrates this law. It was a negative situation, but I
feel that it will get the message home about the subtlety of this law.
You can decide for yourself from this story if you feel this is a
complete coincidence or if this was truly karmic law - the law of cause
and effect - or if you prefer, the law of attraction - in action:
Many years back, several decades ago,
I started my first small business hiring legal secretaries and
administrative help. I met a man who asked me to hire a production
assistant for his film company. This man was quite famous - he was a
key player in the MacCarthy hearings (the Hollywood blacklisting in the
1950s), he was the heir to a large hotel chain and he was now producing
movies. He was married to a former Ms. Universe and had 9 children.
When I first met him to discuss business, he was very upset. He had
allowed a family to use his private plane to go to Catalina Island. The
plane crashed. Well, yes, this man was upset - but not because the
family had died. He was complaining because it would raise his
insurance rates!!
I couldn't get over how cold and uncompassionate he was. He didn't care
about the tragedy - he was only concerned about the increase in cost
for flying insurance.
Fast forward many years later...I
arrived home one evening, turned on the TV, and on all of the prime
time channels, on the news - they were discussing how this man, his
wife and son (who was piloting the plane) crashed while taking off in
their private plane at Van Nuys Airport. They were not even in full
flight. They were just taking off. They all died.
I was stunned to see this. I
remembered the meeting with him many years before and somehow deep down
I just knew that this was the working of the karmic law of cause and
effect. This man's coldhearted feelings toward the other family
rebounded in the same destiny for himself and members of his family.
Amazing!
The effects in our lives do not
generally have the same specifics as the causes, as they did in his
situation - they may show up in different forms - but the fact is that
they WILL show up in some form. We cannot escape the law.
There is one way however, that I
believe we CAN overcome the effects of our past and present "causes" or
"karma" - and it is the only way that we can do so.
It is called living under the law of
"grace" and the only way that we can live under grace and not under the
law of cause and effect is through....LOVE.
